A unique piece of artwork, hand crafted using an upcycled window and glass nuggets in blues, greens and yellows.
Over the last few years I have made, and will continue to make, window mirrors using the wonderful vintage leaded light window frames which were salvaged from my childhood home, which was built in the 1930s by my Grandfather. However, I had been puzzling for some time to know what to do with this particular window, as it had been fitted with obscured glass, so popping a mirror behind it wasn’t going to work!
During a fused glass workshop I struck upon the idea of adding coloured glass nuggets to the glass, to turn the window into a piece of artwork and here we are!
Having restored the frame, I hand painted a number of different chalk paint colours in blues, yellows and greens with a topcoat of white which was distressed to create an aged multi-coloured patina effect. The paintwork has then been waxed for protection. Coloured glass nuggets were glued in place in a flower pattern.
I have added two heavy duty flush mounts to the back of the window for wall fixing (I will provide an additional two brackets so that you have an interlocking pair on each side of the frame). This piece does look particularly lovely with light coming through the back, so if you had a small window which needed some interest adding, I think it would also look wonderful in such a location.
Approximate measurements: 49.5cm high x 41cm wide x 4.5cm deep.
